Young Ceramics Networks
YCN representative - Germany
Larissa Wahl
YCN representative from the German Ceramic Society
FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg
Larissa Wahl is a Ph.D. student at the chair of glass and ceramics at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany. She is working in the “Ceramic processing and additive manufacturing” group of Prof. Travitzky, which deals with additive manufacturing processes for the fabrication of various ceramic materials.
After finishing her bachelor’s degree in nanotechnology, she decided to focus on materials science and especially on glass and ceramics in her master’s studies at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. During this time and especially during an internship at the University of Padova in 2016 she specialized in the field of additive manufacturing of ceramics. In Padova, she worked in the group of Prof. Colombo on the direct ink writing of ceramic matrix composites using preceramic polymers. Her master’s thesis dealt with the orientation of anisotropic alumina platelets during robocasting and was carried out in the labs of Prof. Travitzky in Erlangen. After finishing her thesis, she got the opportunity to start working at the university in 2017.
Her Ph.D. thesis focuses on robocasting of reaction-bonded carbides, which offers the possibility to produce complex-shaped ceramic structures without the need for expensive post-processing. Starting with printing and fabrication of reaction-bonded silicon carbide (RBSC), she then concentrated on the fabrication of reaction-bonded boron carbide (RBBC) and in particular the multi-material printing of those. Multi-material printing provides great new opportunities in combining materials and consequently their properties.
During her studies and her Ph.D., she had the chance to attend various national and international conferences, present her research results, and get in contact with other researchers in this field.
After completing her Ph.D., she would like to further deepen her knowledge in the field of additive manufacturing of ceramics and is therefore looking for a postdoctoral position.
She is very honored to have been chosen as the representative for Germany, is looking forward to expand the ceramic network, and is available for scientific contact.
