YCN Representative for Egypt
PhD student at Assiut University, Egypt
Hi everyone! I’m Heba from Egypt. I am a PhD student at Assiut University. My research focuses on mitigating defects in additive manufacturing of ceramic components, specifically utilizing Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology. Printing ceramics poses significant challenges due to the extreme processing conditions. The stochastic dynamics of the melt pool and its highly sensitive characteristics often lead to thermal gradients, resulting in various microstructural defects in the final printed part. In my research, I leverage the intrinsic physical and chemical properties of ceramics to mitigate or eliminate these defects. By tailoring the material's response to the laser energy, this approach ensures a more stable melt pool dynamics, leading to a refined and defect-free microstructure.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design and Production in 2017. Following this, I pursued a Master’s degree in 2018, focusing on Additive Manufacturing, specifically Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). Throughout my Master’s journey, while my practical work centered on polymers, I was consistently drawn to ceramics. My fascination stems from their exceptional properties and the wide range of advanced applications they offer in modern engineering.
Although the academic career might be challenging and exhausting sometimes, it is so much better when we can interact and discuss with others with similar goals but different backgrounds, expertise, and personalities. So I'm lucky to have the opportunity to meet people in the field of ceramic materials all over the world.

Interface Engineering: High-Temperature Interactions Between High-Entropy Ceramics and Metals.
My research explores high-temperature interactions between high-entropy ceramics (HECs) and metals, with a focus on joining strategies for extreme environments. By understanding how metals wet and react with these advanced ceramics, I aim to design reliable interfaces for applications such as composites, coatings, and ceramic joining with functional properties. This work contributes to improving the performance and durability of materials used in demanding industries such as energy, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
