Antonio’s academic background is built on a solid foundation in Chemistry, complemented by a Master’s degree in Food Technology and a Master’s degree in Secondary Education. This combination has allowed him to develop a versatile and multidisciplinary profile, providing him with a broad perspective on research and enabling him to apply his knowledge across different scientific fields.

He is currently pursuing a PhD supported by a prestigious national fellowship in the field of Materials Science. His research focuses on the development of low-temperature composite ceramic materials (such as boron carbide) with enhanced wear resistance, aimed at industrial applications including machining tools and protective equipment. Through his participation in several national and international conferences to present his research results, the publication of scientific articles, and a three-month research stay at the University of Aveiro, Antonio has significantly strengthened his interest in the international research environment.

During the XIXth ECerS Conference 2025, he came into contact with the Young Ceramists Network (YCN) and became familiar with its initiatives, particularly those designed to actively and dynamically connect early-career researchers. Antonio participates as a representative of YCN Spain because he strongly believes in the importance of building a community among young researchers, fostering scientific exchange, and promoting opportunities for collaboration, mobility, and visibility.

YCN Newsletter 31 - Event Overview - Ceramitec 2026 by YCN Committee member Petar Kotevski

YCN’s participation at ceramitec 2026 in Munich from 24th to 26th of March 2026, represented a key step in strengthening ties between young ceramic professionals, academia, and industry. The exhibition provided an international setting where research, innovation and industrial application converge, enabling meaningful engagements. Our main objective was to position YCN as an active interface connecting early-career professionals with industry leaders.

Interface Engineering: High-Temperature Interactions Between High-Entropy Ceramics and Metals.

My research explores high-temperature interactions between high-entropy ceramics (HECs) and metals, with a focus on joining strategies for extreme environments. By understanding how metals wet and react with these advanced ceramics, I aim to design reliable interfaces for applications such as composites, coatings, and ceramic joining with functional properties. This work contributes to improving the performance and durability of materials used in demanding industries such as energy, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
