yCAM 2024 - Short report from Sarah Nistler from the participant's point of view
This was my second time at yCAM and I am a huge fan of the conference. The topic of ceramic additive manufacturing is of course very specialised and that's why yCAM is so important. It was my first time presenting and I was really looking forward to presenting my work to so many experts and getting their feedback. I think it is great that yCAM only has one session, so you really have everyone's attention. This gives you a wider reach and a lot more feedback than at other conferences where you might only talk to 10 to 20 people.
I also really like the atmosphere at yCAM. It is mainly young researchers who are all open-minded and enthusiastic about ceramic additive manufacturing. I had great conversations that gave me new ideas and motivated me to actually try them out. I am usually quite nervous about speaking in front of many people, but knowing that the atmosphere is very supportive, I was really looking forward to giving my talk and hearing what all these experts thought about my work.
As for yCAM 2024 in Tampere, the organisation was great, everything went smoothly (and if it did not, we participants did not notice). I think the meeting after the first day is an important part to break the ice and get to know each other. My highlight, of course, was the conference dinner. Well, not so much the dinner itself (which was great, do not get me wrong, I absolutely enjoyed it), but the dancing to the live band. I loved it when all the 'serious' scientists took to the dance floor and just got going and had so much fun!
Overall, yCAM is my favourite conference and I am already looking forward to Toulouse next year!
