YCN Newsletter 29 - 16th CYSC from the organising committee point of view

The 16th Conference for Young Scientists in Ceramics took place in Novi Sad, Serbia from October 15-18, 2025.

“That was the first conference I have ever attended!”
These are the words we, as organizers, hear quite often, and every time we do, we know our mission is accomplished.
Why are we saying this?

The Conference for Young Scientists in Ceramics (CYSC) is unique for several reasons. This was its 16th edition, and it has been held for more than 28 years without interruption. No matter the circumstances, this conference has always been here to support young researchers and give them both the stage and the spotlight. We also know how difficult it can be to secure financial support at the beginning of a master’s or PhD journey, so our goal is to keep the conference accessible to everyone, with no conference fee. This would not be possible without the tremendous support of the European Ceramic Society and the JECS Trust, who help us maintain the level of support we strive to offer.

This year was truly amazing!
In addition to the Faculty of Technology of the University of Novi Sad, which is the main organizer, the BioSense Institute joined us this year by providing facilities, staff, and space for an incredible additional session dedicated to sensors.

More than 150 participants from 28 countries across five continents had the opportunity to hear 7 outstanding plenary lectures and 10 inspiring invited talks, some of them delivered by researchers whose very first conference was this one. We are genuinely happy and proud to be part of the careers of such remarkable scientists.

Besides the strong scientific program, every year we aim to offer social events that create opportunities for networking and connecting people. Traditionally, the gala dinner carried the signature of the Young Ceramists Network. Participants had the pleasure of learning more about YCN, discovering How to Be Excellent through a passionate and inspiring talk by Prof. Paula Vilarinho, and meeting the new ECerS initiative dedicated to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

We are already looking forward to 2027 and the next edition of CYSC, hoping to see some new, but also many familiar faces!

YCN Newsletter 31 - Event Overview - Ceramitec 2026 by YCN Committee member Petar Kotevski

YCN’s participation at ceramitec 2026 in Munich from 24th to 26th of March 2026, represented a key step in strengthening ties between young ceramic professionals, academia, and industry. The exhibition provided an international setting where research, innovation and industrial application converge, enabling meaningful engagements. Our main objective was to position YCN as an active interface connecting early-career professionals with industry leaders.

Interface Engineering: High-Temperature Interactions Between High-Entropy Ceramics and Metals.

My research explores high-temperature interactions between high-entropy ceramics (HECs) and metals, with a focus on joining strategies for extreme environments. By understanding how metals wet and react with these advanced ceramics, I aim to design reliable interfaces for applications such as composites, coatings, and ceramic joining with functional properties. This work contributes to improving the performance and durability of materials used in demanding industries such as energy, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
