YCN Newsletter 29 - 16th CYSC from a participant's point of view - João Paulo Martins Mansano Rosa
Participating in the 16th ECerS Conference for Young Scientists in Ceramics was an enriching and highly rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to attend the entire event, which offered an excellent overview of current research trends and technological advances in the field of ceramics. The conference environment encouraged dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among young researchers from different countries and backgrounds.
I followed several sessions throughout the event, with particular interest in those dedicated to electroceramic and ceramic materials processing. These sessions provided valuable insights into how the field is evolving through innovative approaches and advanced characterization methods. I was especially impressed by the discussions surrounding non-conventional sintering techniques, such as spark plasma sintering (SPS), microwave-assisted sintering (MWS), ultra-fast sintering and cold sintering process (CSP). Seeing how these processes are being explored in different contexts helped me better understand their potential and limitations and inspired new ideas for my own research.
Beyond the scientific sessions, the conference was also a great opportunity to expand my professional network. I met young researchers from various countries, who are conducting fascinating work closely related to my main research area. Exchanging experiences with them was extremely valuable. These interactions allowed me to learn about different experimental approaches, laboratory practices, and even research cultures, which I believe will be useful in shaping future collaborations.
Overall, the 16th ECerS CYSC was a meaningful experience both scientifically and personally. It provided a comprehensive view of current research in ceramics while allowing me to connect with peers who share similar academic goals and enthusiasm for the field. The event broadened my perspective on non-conventional sintering and reinforced my motivation to continue exploring new processing routes and material systems. I returned home with new insights, ideas, and contacts that will undoubtedly contribute to my ongoing research and professional development.
Attending the 16th ECerS Conference for Young Scientists in Ceramics was truly an unforgettable experience. I have participated in several scientific events, both in Europe and in my home country, Brazil, but I had never taken part in one organized with such kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine care for the participants’ well-being. It was evident that every detail of the event was carried out with great dedication and attention.
Beyond the excellent scientific program, one of the most rewarding aspects was meeting young researchers from various countries — including France, Portugal, Austria, and Serbia, among others. Engaging with them and learning about their fascinating work in areas closely related to my main research interest, non-conventional sintering, was incredibly inspiring. The exchange of ideas and experiences not only broadened my scientific perspective but also fostered meaningful connections that I hope will lead to future collaborations.
