YCN Newsletter 32 - Letter from Joanna Tanska

Dear YCN Community, dear Colleagues, dear Friends,

Looking back on my time in the Young Ceramists Network Committee, I feel one thing above all else – gratitude.

When I first joined YCN, I was hoping to meet other young researchers who shared my passion for ceramics. I never expected it to become such an important part of my journey. Over the years, this community has given me so much more than I could have imagined.

The most valuable part has always been the people. I’ve had the privilege of working with incredibly inspiring, dedicated, and kind colleagues who constantly reminded me that science is built not only on knowledge but also on collaboration, trust, and generosity. It has truly been an honour to work alongside all of you.

I’ve learned so much during this experience – not only about organising events and working in an international team, but also about communication, teamwork, and taking initiative. It helped me grow both professionally and personally, and I will always be grateful for that.

I would like to sincerely thank every member of the Committee, past and present, for your friendship, support, and willingness to share your ideas and experience. Every discussion, every meeting, and every project was a chance to learn something new. Your passion, creativity and dedication are what make YCN such a unique community.

I would also like to thank all the YCN Representatives, the ECerS Office, and everyone working behind the scenes. So much of what YCN achieves is only possible because of your hard work.

At the end, I want to thank everyone I met through YCN. For the conversations over coffee, the encouragement before presentations, the laughs during conferences, and the friendships that grew from shared interests. Those are the memories I will treasure the most.

While this chapter comes to an end, I know my connection with YCN does not. I’m looking forward to seeing familiar faces at future conferences and watching this amazing community continue to grow.

Thank you for trusting me, inspiring me, and making these past years so meaningful. It has been a privilege to be part of this journey.

With warm wishes,

Joining the Young Ceramists Network Committee feels especially meaningful to me after serving as the Spanish Representative during 2024–2025. For the past few years, YCN has shown me how powerful a scientific community can be, opening doors to opportunities I never expected, introducing me to inspiring people from different backgrounds, and fostering connections that extend far beyond research and academia.LinkedIn Profile
